Digital Silver Imaging (DSI) of Boston is a unique photo lab with black and white, inkjet, and ILFORD in its DNA. Owner and former ILFORD executive, Eric Luden, brings an insider’s knowledge and perspective to ILFORD inkjet and silver gelatin based media. However, Luden is not looking backward, he is running one of the few labs in the world that is producing silver based museum quality black and white prints on silver gelatin paper directly from digital files. DSI accomplishes this nifty feat by using a laser to expose ILFORD light sensitive photo paper utilizing a modified Durst printer/processor. The resulting prints are actual wet process, silver based gelatin black and white prints (the kind you used to make in trays under a red safelight in the darkroom.)
In addition to producing museum quality silver based black and white prints DSI offers a variety of services including hi-resolution film scanning, digital retouching, mounting, matting, framing, black and white film processing, chemical print toning, and more. And because any lab knows that customers who calibrate and profile their monitors send in better quality files that can be printed with confidence, DSI has also just added X-Rite color management solutions. DSI customers can choose ColorMunki Photo or the NEW display solutions from X-Rite, ColorMunki Display and i1Display Pro. All three of these solutions provide high quality monitor and projector profiles so that you can be certain what you’re seeing on your monitor is what Eric and his staff will be seeing on their monitor when your file arrives at DSI. So what does all of this have to do with ILFORD GALERIE inkjet paper? I’m glad you asked!
Digital Silver Imaging has just introduced new services that include archival color prints. ILFORD GALERIE Smooth Pearl inkjet media will be one of the mainstay options for inkjet print offerings from DSI. “We took the most challenging aspect of digital photography, black and white, and perfected that service. Now we want to create the finest archival color prints for our customers with the same high quality on which we’ve built our reputation,” says Eric Luden. “Using large format Epson printers with HDR inks and ILFORD GALERIE Smooth Pearl inkjet media brings proven quality on a refined surface that has a superb look and feel.” Recently released print permanence data by Wilhelm Research indicates that the archival properties of this inkjet media with pigment inks is well over 200 years when displayed behind glass in normal room lighting.
Additional options for media including ILFORD GALERIE Gold Fibre Silk will soon be added so that you can customize your output using DSI. These new color inkjet services are available now so be sure to check out www.digitalsilverimaging.com for more information.
