ILFORD presented Imaging Without Boundaries at Photokina 2012. The exhibit featured artists and organizations giving them the opportunity to demonstrate techniques that challenge the boundaries of photography and image making. Each participant had their own stand or booth area. I visited some of them while there in September. The exhibit was a collaboration between ILFORD and Susanna Kraus and the IMAGO 1:1, the largest walk in camera in the world.
Born in Magdeburg, East Germany, miR Grabe is a minimalist photographer who turns just about anything, including a toilet, into a camera. Grabe has a fundamental interest in experimental and conceptual photography, and seeking the maximum potential for influencing and controlling his work most of his cameras are walk-in, taking up several square meters. Making use of ILFORD direct positive black and white media, Grabe transforms openly accessible spaces of all kinds into pinhole cameras. If the exposure time requires, he remains inside the camera, eating and sleeping inside for hours or days.
