ILFORD Master Seth Resnick on the Photographic Print

ILFORD Master Seth Resnick‘s latest body of work is now on exhibit at the annual Art Basel in Miami, Florida.  Art Basel stages the world’s premier Modern and contemporary art shows, held annually in Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong. Founded by gallerists in 1970, Art Basel has been a driving force in supporting the role that galleries play in the nurturing of artists, and the development and promotion of visual arts. A new exhibit of recent work by Seth Resnick called “160,000 Miles of Color” will opened at Gallery 2014 in Hollywood, Florida on December 17, 2013 and continues through January 19, 2014. All prints in this exhibition were printed on ILFORD GALERIE Prestige Gold Cotton Smooth specifically for this new exhibit.

Here’s what ILFORD Master Seth Resnick has to say about printing photographic images.

Seth has made his mark in the world of contemporary photography with a prolific career spanning education, fine art, editorial, stock and commercial work, as well his entrepreneurial contributions in training thousands of photographers in digital workflow methods through the D-65 process.  Chosen by Photo District News as one of the 30 most influential photographers of the decade, Seth is greatly in demand for his beautiful graphic images.  Published in many of the world’s most prestigious magazines, his credits include over 2500 publications worldwide and his clients constitute a virtual “Who’s Who” list of Corporate America.

His latest body of work on exhibit now at Gallery 2014 in Hollywood, Florida is called “160,000 Miles of Color.” It captures the haunting and beautiful landscapes of places that stretch our imagination beyond the everyday images we are bomdarded with in our digital world. The exhibit is up through January 19, 2014. Be sure to see it if you are in the Miami area.

Find out how you can join Seth and partner John Paul Caponigro for expeditions and workshops through Digital Photo Destinations, an organization that combines exotic world travel with photographic education.”My visual philosophy is to produce images nobody else envisions,” says Seth.  “Ideally, someone standing next to me won’t see what I see.  I try to bring back those unseen images from my own mind’s eye.  I am stimulated by color, design, light, texture, spontaneity and gesture.”

Turning Prints Into Revenue | Sell Wallspace

There are lots of great articles archived here on the ILFORD blog just waiting for you to discover them. Find them all on the “Articles” tab above! Here’s an excerpt from just one of them helping you turn prints into revenue.

Sell Wall SpaceSell wallspace

So how do you give yourself the best chance of making money from your prints in a fiercely competitive market? Firstly, think about your attitude when you’re talking to potential customers. Resist the urge to tell customers about the quality of the photographic tools you use. Materials including paper, while very important, are of the least concern to your client. Instead, adopt the approach of selling a carefully-crafted visual memory that lives in their home on their wall. Sell framed “moments” to your customers and they will not only come back for more, their friends and family will call you get the same experience. (more…)

ILILFORD GALERIE Prestige Papers Review on Luminous Landscape

Luminous LandscapeLuminious Landscape editors Mark D. Segal and Michael Reichmann posed the question “What’s the gold standard of inkjet papers?” in their recent review of new ILFORD GALERIE fine art papers at www.luminous-landscape.com. While the answer to this question clearly depends on what each individual likes and has as a vision for the print, having choices is essential for attaining one’s own vision for how the final print will express the photographer’s image. This two year community college, started in 1946, offers an Associates Arts degree with a wide variety of course offerings to students who are often working full time and putting themselves through school.

_94A9492Professor Ford Lowcock spoke with us recently about the program and the importance of teaching printing to the students there. Ford began his career in 1974 and became a master at layer masking techniques working with Cibachrome starting in 1981. working with one of Eliot Porter’s assistants doing Dye Transfer prints. He also worked with one of Eliot Porter’s assistants learning the master techniques of making Dye Transfer prints.  His love of photography spans the decades right up to current digital technology.StudentShow

The Photographic Information Record and Your Prints

DP3 Newsletter

The Image Permanence Institute‘s latest edition of DP3 Newsletter features a very interesting article discussing the need for recording information about photographic prints to facilitate proper conservation of the images in future. The standardized format is called the Photographic Information  Record (PIR) and is currently in use by major institutions across the world. “Information collected id_screenshotincludes such items as creator, process, ownership, exhibition and conservation histories, etc. The PIR is applicable to any photographic image, whether created using a 19th century technology such as albumen or 21st century technology such as inkjet.” Read the entire article and download your PDF of the PIR. Check out information on the DP3 Project online ID tool. The Print Comparison Tool allows us to compare how an image might look on printed on and inkjet printer on Fine Art paper versus other types of papers or technology types such as offset lithographic for instance. It’s a fascinating view into how different technologies might represent the image differently.

You’re sure to want to sign up for this very interesting and informative newsletter. Visit the Image Permanence Institute website at www.imagepermanenceinstitute.org.
