We are delighted to share with you a full-length video of a lecture held in February, 2013 in NYC by renowned photographer, educator and ILFORD MASTER Gregory Heisler. Greg joined us for a special one-day exhibition of forty-three large prints from his new book, “50 Portraits: Stories and Techniques from a Photographer’s Photographer.”
The book is a rich tapestry of photographs and the stories behind them. That is certainly fitting coming from one of the best visual storytellers of his age. But as you will experience in the lecture video and the book, Gregory is also focused on the human connection between photographer and subject, and how to choose the best scene and lighting to draw out that story. All on deadline, I might add.
During this exhibition earlier this year, Greg remarked that he had never seen his images printed so large. Curious, we asked at what size he normally saw them. He replied simply with his hands, “About this size – a TIME Magazine cover.” With delight, he walked from one print to the next, telling stories much like the ones you will hear in the video below.
Please enjoy the below video – we are overjoyed to be able to share this with you! If you are moved, we encourage you to support Gregory’s talents by purchasing his book at your local photo retailer, bookstore or online.
